Last week you learned that stress can take on many different forms and that most of us are in “flight or fight” overdrive. Stress can be physical like a fall, car accident and injury. It can be emotional like dealing with deadlines, finances, and death. And it can also be chemical like consuming caffeine, medications and drugs, and pollution. The constant stress that our body is insulted with on a day to day basis will start to inevitably manifest as physical problems such as: pain, aching, muscle tightness, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatigue, difficulty sleeping and headaches, to name a few symptoms.

What’s a person to do!

As a chiropractor, my job is to help you restore normal function to your body, which in turn can decrease any symptoms a person might be having. In fact, getting adjusted by a chiropractor turns on the “rest and recover” response and helps minimize the “fight or flight” response. This in turn, takes pressure off of your nervous system and improves your ability to deal with the everyday stressors of modern day life. It’s not uncommon for my patients to report not only that their symptoms are decreasing and that they are able to get a more restful nights sleep, but also that they feel like a “weight has been lifted off of their shoulders.”
