The neighbourhood of Oaklands is located in the NE corner of Victoria, BC. The majority of development in the area occurred between the World Wars. Previously, vast sections of land were swamps along Haultain Street and farmland. In the 1850s, the Jewish Cemetery was established on land north of Ryan Street. The area south of Ryan Street was allotted to the Finlayson family and remained in the family’s possession until the early 1900s. Back to homepage

Residents of the neighbourhood have many options for shopping and dining. Nearby Hillside Mall is a major commercial district for the region. Neighbourhood convenience stores and restaurants are available in Oaklands. The neighbourhood also boasts great walkability and a sense of community. A family-friendly community centre, the Oaklands Community Centre, and the Hillside Mall are a great place to spend an afternoon. In addition to local shopping, residents can enjoy the Oaklands Sunset Market, held every Wednesday evening. Live music, local food, and a beer garden are all common in this area.
